This one is my first travel video on YouTube from the KINNAUR IS CALLING series. It is made during May 2020 when the flowering season was going on in my Apple Orchard at Kalpa. Kalpa is a small town in the Kinnaur District of Himachal Pradesh, India. Kinnaur is the last district of Himachal Pradesh, which shares its boundary with Tibet. Kalpa is around 262 KM away from Shimla and one can reach there by road only. Kinnaur is known for its world-famous Kinnauri Apple. This orchard is located at an altitude of 3020 meters above the mean sea level. Mostly the Kinnaur apples are grown at an altitude above 2700 meters. Kinnaur produces one of the Delicious variety of apples known for its natural sweetness, color, and succulence. This is the brand apple of India which represents Indian apple in the world market. They have a very long natural shelf life period from 4 to 6 months and are very hard which makes them easier for transportation. A box (8Kg to 25kg) of superior Kinnaur apple costs 2500 - 4500 INR in the Market. This is the main cash crop of Kinnauri people. Apart from this other cash crops are Chilgoza (Pinus gerardiana)/ Pine nut, Morshella (Guchchi/Jangomch), Almonds, Grapes, Apricot (Khurmani), Wild apricot (Chulli), Walnut (Akhrot), Kinnauri rajma (Red Beans), Wild Peach (Baimi), Olga Flour, Dhankhar Flour, Fapra Flour (Buckwheat), Chiney (Flour) are produced in Kinnaur.
